Beauty Is In The Eye

The other day I was told by someone whose opinion I value very much that my photos are good, but they're not GREAT. They all look the same. They're not interesting enough to sit and look at and analyze. They're just pretty, skinny girls in the same type of locations.

Hearing this made me feel pretty upset but I didn't show it. For a split second I wondered if I really wasn't that good, then I remembered my journey. I started taking pictures about 2 1/2 years ago when I really fell in love with it. I knew it was going to take me a long time to get good and that motivated me to work even harder. I spent almost every day my Junior and Senior years of high school shooting pictures, learning my camera, and I stayed up till very late at night (sometimes all nighters) reading tutorials for photoshop and articles on photography.

To me... that right there is dedication.

I dedicated my time and lost my social life and a lot of friends and time because I want to eventually, hopefully in the near future, be amazing. You may wonder why the heck I would do that... And I did it because it's the thing I'm best at. It's the one thing I know I can achieve if I work hard enough, and I love that feeling I get when I'm successful.

So I don't care if I take a picture someone doesn't like. What matters is that I love it. To me, every picture is a picture that's making me one step closer to being a better photographer than I was before I clicked that shutter. The beautiful thing about art is that fabulous quote that says:

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"

And I definitely agree with that. You could hate an artists picture, painting, drawing, print, etc. But I think it's ignorant of someone to hate an artists work. Even if you hate something, you can still take something from it. Whether it's the detail, the colors, the ideas that brought on the piece, or the overall process. Appreciate the time the artist put into their work, even if you don't like it.

I take pictures for me. I see beauty in my photographs because they represent the journey I've gone through to get where I am now, and where I'm going to be down the road.

Brooke

Here it is... finally a photoshoot post! So last week I was able to shoot Brooke Rowley! I've seen her pictures from photography Jake Garn, and I loved them. I have this mental list of models I see Jake Garn, Ryan Muirhead, all those great photographers in my area shoot, and if this isn't creepy enough, Brooke was on that list! Well last week we met up in SLC, walked around and took pictures! Check them out, she's so beautiful, such a good model!
